Flea Prevention Tips for Pet Owners
There are plenty of flea prevention tips you can follow this summer that can reduce the chances of an infestation. For starters, make sure your pet is on a flea, tick, and pest preventative medication; if you’re not sure where to find the right preventative for your pet, talk to our vet. We’d be happy to make a recommendation based on your pet’s size and breed! Furthermore, make sure you’re grooming your pet regularly. Keeping your pet’s fur clean and free of clumps and mats will not only protect your pet from pain and discomfort but will make your pet less attractive to fleas and other pests.
You can also reduce the chances of having fleas in your yard by keeping up with your lawn and landscaping. While you don’t need to have a perfectly manicured lawn, keeping the grass mowed to a short length and getting rid of dead organic debris (such as wood and leaves) will reduce the risk of fleas inhabiting your yard.
Regardless of how many preventative actions you take, it’s always a good idea to check your pet for fleas regularly—especially during the summer months. A good time to do this is monthly when you give your pet his or her preventative medication, but it can be done at any time!
